Therapy Is For Christians Too

Some believe therapy or counseling isn’t for Christians…but believe OB/GYNs, dentists, surgeons, optometrists, dermatologists, family physicians, ER doctors and pediatricians are. In 2021, we should not still be having this debate…

It’s the trick of the enemy to believe that a Christian is committing a sin by seeking help to win.

Can we stop treating our brain like it’s not a part of the human body, and stop treating anointed professionals with skills and tools to help us conquer mentally and emotionally like they’re the anti-Christ.

I know, somebody is just itching to say Jesus is all you need or God is a healer. Both of these are true and it is also true that in God we have access to those He anointed to assist us with human needs. If your faith isn’t mature enough to discern the difference between God and help, Jesus and support, faith and reinforcements, I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to individuals who have discovered that they don’t know everything and that God has given some the gift, talent and passion to understand the complexities and injuries of the mind and emotions.

And for those who are itching to let the world know that all therapists, counselors, coaches aren’t saved or aren’t qualified or aren’t good, don’t bother. I’m talking to folks who have the sense to search for and find qualified and talented professional resources for whatever they might need help with. We have the same ability to find a good therapist or counselor or coach as we do a good dentist, OB/GYN, optometrist, physician or mechanic.

And for those sitting in the back who think God doesn’t support Christians seeking professional help, wise counsel…you made that up, that’s pure emotionalism not biblical fact:

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14)

“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22)

“Only with sound guidance should you wage war, and victory lies in a multitude of counselors” (Proverbs 24:6)

“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22)

The Bible declares that God is a holistic God: “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23). So to those who have the faith and the courage to recognize when you need help…you are a hero to your healing. You are a wise advocate for your purpose and potential. You are a friend to your destiny, a champion of living your blessed life and biblically, you are rightly dividing the word of truth.
