PROJECT SHIFT TRANSFORMS

Project Shift transforms individuals, families, communities – so they can thrive and prosper. Whether by sponsoring emergency housing for domestic violence victims, supporting mental health initiatives targeting individuals and families in crisis, or amplifying the voices of individuals impacted by toxic, abusive, destructive relationships.

FAMILIES IN CRISIS

“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17)

With a focus on disruption, Project Shift supports local, regional and national initiatives that strengthen resilience, provide life-saving services, accelerate rapid and durable recovery, and invest in the protection and empowerment of abuse victims.

1/3

Worldwide, almost one third (27%) of women aged 15-49 years who have been in a relationship report that they have been subjected to some form of physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner. Estimates published by WHO indicate that globally about 1 in 3 (30%) of women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime.

85%

Over 85% of families experiencing homelessness are female-headed. Homeless families comprise roughly 34% of the total U.S. homeless population. Inadequate housing and shelter options, evictions, discrimination, poverty, and other factors contribute to the crisis of homelessness caused by family violence.

92%

Over 92% of homeless mothers have experienced severe physical and/or sexual abuse. 81% of women report significant short-term or long-term impacts such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Sex trafficking rates among youth and young adults experiencing homelessness ranges from 19% to as high as 40%.
